Granite City Chorus

About Us

We’re a multi-award winning male chorus in North East Scotland that’s been wowing audiences since 1990.

We sing without any musical accompaniment using a mix of tenor, lead, baritone and bass voices to produce fantastic harmonies. Our style is known as ‘Barbershop’ but it’s not all striped jackets and straw boater hats!

Humble Beginnings

The Granite City Chorus has been in existence since 1990 when it started with four or five guys getting together to discover the joys of producing that unique barbershop sound. Starting out as the “Royal Mailers” the chorus later adopted its current name to reflect its roots in North East Scotland’s Silver City.  Over the years we’ve grown into a chorus around 40-strong that also includes 2 quartets and an octet. And out of over fifty groups affiliated to the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS), we’re the furthest North.

Under the direction of Colin Reid since 2007 the chorus has continued to grow and develop its repertoire to include a variety of songs ranging from traditional barbershop through to musical theatre, Scottish, and vintage pop standards.

Why do we do it?

Quite simply we love to sing. It’s joyful, proven to benefit health, a great way to make new friends, provides great entertainment and we get an absolute thrill ringing chords with gorgeous overtones. Even when we take on a challenging song, the sense of achievement from performing it is hard to beat!
